I really wanted to paint something magical...I wish I would have painted the deer a different color though.

Watercolor on cold-pressed Cotman. 5" x 7".

Absolutely amazing! Very eye-catching and the use of warm colors drew me in :). Just wondering as an artist (and you don't have to respond if you don't want to give away any trade secrets hihi) but how did you layer on the colors so well? You create the negative space of the leaves with the darker reds and browns but how is it that you remember where to paint and where not to?

This is such a beautiful style! I love the use of negative space to create subjects, the layering and colors are superb. Well done!

did you use masking fluid for the leaves or could you control the flow of paint just like that?

no masking fluid...when i'm doing these intricate layers, i try not to overload the brush with medium. it takes a little longer, but it's easier to control the paint.
