I keep wondering if you use stencils or masking fluid for these. They're so lovely to look at, I love looking at art where it seems the artist really had fun as well :)

No stencils or masking fluid! Just a lot of time, patience, and my OCD nature. Thanks for looking!

So whimsical! I love that the tree branch arches are transparent, and layered over each other, it captures a sort of feeling, a luminosity. And all the little creatures are so sweet, so well rendered.. each one seems to have a distinct personality, I especially love the little bunnies in the snow. Such a beautiful piece..

Thanks! Watercolor as a medium gives that luminous quality to the subject matter. Like everything is jewel-like.

I like this so much I'm inspired to make a few remarks about it...

I enjoy the hint of starry sky at the top. The stars suggest falling snow as well, and in a way play two roles in the picture. The contrast of the dark stones in the path is lovely against the snow-covered ground. With clear skies and bare stones at night I imagine a sunny afternoon preceded this magical evening.

The size of the birds and the branches they perch on is striking. This naturally allows for interesting detail on the birds' plumage, but by "superimposing" these elements on the trees the forest is made to seem even larger and grander. Likewise, the prominence of our feathered friends reminds me of how birds at night — heard but not seen — can sound larger than life, as these birds — seen but not heard — also seem. This montage-like technique is effective: it is as if I am viewing the forest at two different resolutions simultaneously, taking in the grandeur of the tree-covered hills but also seeing these small branches and birds up close.

The arcs of the branches echo the curve of the cottage's hilltop, and also "call out" the subtle slopes in the landscape suggested by the arrangement and differing heights of the trees, playing against the strong vertical lines suggested by the trees themselves.

The color palette is variegated just enough, and not oversaturated or overwhelming. The color choices seem thoughftul and skillful.

Finally, the gradient watercolor effects in the forest are very nice, and the warm light from the "hobbit house" cottage makes me feel welcome. This place you've depicted is a place I would be happy to call home :)

This work is cute, cozy and fun to explore. Thanks again for sharing!

Wow, thanks for taking the time to analyze my painting so thoroughly and articulately! You have a lot of thoughtful insights, and I'm glad you shared the story that went on in your mind as you looked.
